Robert’s experience includes serving as the Alabama State Bar staff liaison to the Alabama State Bar Client Security Fund Committee and the staff liaison and professional responsibility advisor to the Alabama State Bar’s Family Law Section. Robert served on the Alabama Child Custody Laws Revision Task Force, Task Force on Legal Education, Task Force on Admissions, Task Force on Client Security Fund, and Committee on Rules and Disciplinary Enforcement. He was a principal drafter of the 2006, 2007 and 2008 amendments to the Rules Governing Admission of the Alabama State Bar; the 1999, 2000, 2005, and 2008 amendments to the Alabama Rules of Disciplinary Procedure; the 2008 and 2009 amendments to the Alabama Rules of Professional Conduct; the 2010 amendments to the Client Security Fund Rules, and the 2007 amendments to the Family Law Section by-laws. Robert also served on the Alabama Law Institute Uniform Interstate Family Support Act Committee, the Uniform Collaborative Law Committee, and the Uniform Parentage Act Committee that drafted legislation, which was adopted by the Alabama Legislature in 2009. Robert is an advocate for the formation of a committee by the Alabama Law Institute to revise Alabama’s Adoption Code. Robert also served on the Joint Legislative Family Law Task Force, which explored the possibility to creating a family law code that would include a compilation of all state statutes affecting families in Alabama.

Robert is a certified guardian ad litem and is a trainer for the Alabama Administrative Office of the Courts’ Mandatory Guardian Ad Litem Training and is a member of the Alabama John R. Justice Law Advisory Committee.Robert is a respected authority on legal ethics, professional responsibility, and lawyer discipline in Alabama and is a highly sought-after speaker on Ethics and Professionalism in Alabama. He is a regular speaker for CLE Alabama, Cumberland School of Law, and the Alabama State Bar Family Law Section, where he has provided ethics training in areas of divorce, child custody, visitation, child support, and adoption. Robert is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts in the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts in Alabama, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. Robert is a 1987 graduate from The University of Alabama School of Law.As a member of the Alabama State Bar with 25 years’ of practice, Robert has served as Assistant General Counsel for the Alabama State Bar from October 1995 until February 2013. As disciplinary counsel for the Alabama State Bar, he was responsible for providing oversight to investigations of grievances against lawyers and prosecution of lawyer disciplinary cases and other licensure matters before the Disciplinary Commission, Disciplinary Board, and Alabama Supreme Court. Robert has trial and appellate experience in both state and federal courts. He served as Chief Counsel/Deputy District Attorney for the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office from January 1993 until October 1995, where he was responsible for felony and capital prosecution, white collar crime investigations and prosecutions, supervision of the District Attorney’s Worthless Check Unit, Child Support Enforcement Unit and Pre-Trial Diversion Unit. Robert also served as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Alabama from June 1988 until January 1993, where he was responsible for trial and appellate litigation, in both state and federal courts, providing Attorney General advisory opinions to state agencies and officers, was Legal Counsel for the Alabama State Board of Podiatry and the State of Alabama Soil and Water Conservation Committee. Robert has also served as Law Clerk to Circuit Judge H. Randall Thomas.
